Re: Tailgate
Most likely the drive cable has broken in the rear glass motor mechanism. When it goes, the window won't drop so the ECU stops the tailgate opening. Do you get a long beep when you press the window down button?

Re: Tailgate
Is this on the 5 door? Not sure whether the ECU still beeps to indicate the error in this case.
Have you disconnected, then reconnected the battery? If the window's uncalibrated, the ECU normally drops the window on battery connection, but it may not do so if the tailgate's closed.
Does the window drop if you press and hold unlock on the remote?

Re: Tailgate
Can you hear the relays clicking in the rear 1/4 when you press the tailgate window switch?

Re: Tailgate
Lack of relay click suggests it's a CCU issue, but I'd always suspect the rear window motor first. Every freelander seems to suffer the broken drive cable issue sooner or later.
