Re: Test topic
OK, I just created this test account and run it on another machine (running Linux to try and really fool it !)
I think what happens is we use a common account to use the image upload/hosting like this, so I'll just login and reset the password to something trivial so we can all use the same. It will hopefully be a case of doing a one-off login to the account and then it's easy.

OK. You should login to that popup once with -
forum@mad-freelanders.org.uk

Re: Test topic
I give up.
I entered the email address and pass word you gave us. That allowed me to browse my pictures, and open the file. I then got a drop down menu allowing me to chose which size to post the picture. I chose the size for forums (800 i think). That did nothing. I re sized image on the computer to 640x320 as per old forum. That then gave me 3 options which I didnt understand. I chose different options on 2 different occasions pressing upload each time, somthing happened but I have no idea where the file has gone. How did you do it Si. It really cant be this difficult can it?

Re: Test topic
Found this in FAQ's, does it mean anything to you Si?
Can I post Images?
Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed).

Re: Test topic
Not sure if I could replicate it! Certainly not able to explain just now. I'll try again later and make some notes - have to go out now.
Part of the problem was that half the time the window that opens when I press the 'host an image' button is more than half off the screen, no links available, not draggable or resizeable, and locks up IE. Have to use the 'end now' button and start again....

Re: Test topic
I've not had that problem with the browser at all Alan, what browser and version are you using ?
Rich - the window basically uploads your file to another host, then gives you the forum code to add in like you can normally if you know a link. ie
To get that into your post you highlight the 2nd block of text (most convenient) and copy it into your post. I found you can do this whilst it is still open by clicking behind it.
I'm putting off transferring forums until we get this sorted BTW, it's fairly crucial really and won't work if it's too much trouble for all users.
Cheers

IE 6, but according to my ISP soon (12 Feb) to be upgraded to 7 by a forced instal from Microsoft. Up to now automatic downloads have given me the option of installing v7 or not - I haven't as I know a couple of people who've had issues with v7.
Maybe I need to give Firefox a go???

Seems to have worked, seems like a lot of hassle just to do a simple task like this though.
It is quite a hassle, but that's a general problem with 'free' type forums I think.
I saw you put a picture in your own gallery previously, wondering if using that functionality and posting the URL to those into messages will be easier ?
What does anyone think ? I suspect the 'hosting' way will become easier as we do it more, but it's certainly not trivial.

Re: Test topic
I posted this to my gallery (easy to do and understand) then clicked on it for info and copied the forum code it gave me for the image here -

The only problem there is the gallery size is limited, but we can always buy a bit more as it's not that expensive.
Maybe if I write up both ways then we've at least got a choice and most people will get on with one or the other

Re: Test topic
Also the problem with gallery images is that you have to allow them. Thats what i got a message saying when I first tried to post a picture there.
