lift question?

just read some thing on another forum Embarassed about needing to modify chassis a bit when fitting 40-50mm lift, i didn't think you needed to. i don't know such things as i am unlifted but know you guys will be able to tell me for sure.

i know its a daft question but i don't like people getting wrong information

not daft, you have to cut the thin inner wing down only to the chassis where the track rods poke thro and just bend the metal flap bit down or remove it altogether, as with the lift kit the track rods drop lower and would rub the wing on full travel, hope this helps?

cheers rob that clears alot up thanks, the bloke on there said the same about inner wing but also said he had to cut about 1/2 an inch out of chassis rail and move the fuel pipe junction from l/h rail to the in side of the rail as it was in the way (td4)???

Yeah and fuel lines on XEDi too. OK cutting the inner wing but I wouldn't recommend cutting into the 'Chassis' (not a chassis in real terms) unless some other form of strengthening was carried out, Its structural part of vehicle and would be weakened and possibly wouldn't perform as designed in a smash Cool

I managed to split the fuel lines on my first freelander, 02 plate td4. Very expensive repair, solution was to wrap steering arm in pipe insulation . Dont know if it would have saved it but at least it would have cushioned any contact between arm and pipe. Face lifted td4 has the pipes slightly re routed

i was all ready to order one until people started mentioning fuel lines!! Didnt imagine there being THAT much involved. Surprised not sure the lad who was going to fit it will be happy with that

You dont need to move the fuel lines Pip, just be aware that they are just inside the inner wing where you cutting down to. If I were you I would just advise him that they are there and to go carefull.

just been out and had a look.. still going ahead with it, the inner wing looks like its already been done. Sounded scarier than it was cheers Out of interest... if i do the removal of the rear panels for him... how long do you rekon it'll take a decent mechanic to do?
